Gardening & Wildlife visit to the Laskett Gardens, Much Birch, Herefordshire
Tuesday 10th April 2012

The Gardening & Wildlife Group are organising a visit to the above gardens on Tuesday 10th April 2012. The Gardens are between Abergavenny and Hereford - and are owned and designed by Sir Roy Strong - the gardens have been designed and developed by him and his late wife. Sir Roy is a well known personality in the art world and was at one time the curator of the National Gallery in London. The gardens have been featured on TV.

Unfortunately, there are no catering facilities and only one "loo" and we will therefore stopping in Abergavenny on the way there to use the facilities. If the weather is inclement I am informed that a barn will be opened in which we can shelter. Wear stout shoes and wear suitable clothing in case of cold or wet weather.

We will leave the Newport Riverfront by coach at 9.00am make our way to Abergavenny, where we will stop for about 30 mins, arriving at the gardens at 10.30am. If Sir Roy Strong is at home he may accompany us around the gardens (but this is not guaranteed) and the tour lasts about 90mins to 2 hours. We will leave the Laskett Gardens at approx. 12.30pm and make our way to Hereford - where we can have a look round and have lunch. Hereford is a very lovely city - the Cathedral being its focal point. We will leave Hereford at approx. 4.00pm - a little earlier if the weather is poor.

The cost of the trip is £20 - this includes transport, gratuity for the driver and entrance into the gardens.

Please pay as soon as possible, payment to be made to Trixie, Mary or Isabelle. Cheques to be made to Newport U3A Gardening & Wildlife Group. If you wish to go on the trip, please fill in your details on the form on the notice-board in the kitchen.
