The Art History Group had its first meeting on 9 January 2008, so we have recently reached our first anniversary. In this first year, we have been following a video course on Art of the Western World, viewing and then discussing each episode, so as to develop a general appreciation of the historical development of art.

We completed this course in January, and have now started to look at some individual artists in more detail. So far, we have studied Giotto and Leonardo.

We made our first gallery visit as a group in December 2008, when ten of us went to the National Museum in Cardiff to look at the refurbished and newly arranged art galleries there. Our next gallery visit is on 8 April, again to the Cardiff Museum, where we will have a guided tour of the exhibition on ‘Sisley in England and Wales’.

The group welcomes anyone with an interest in art history or art appreciation. Our levels of knowledge vary widely – the key to enjoyment is interest in and enthusiasm for the subject.
